If you are like many of my friends on Facebook, you may be waking up to some embarrassing news after a long night of randomly searching the darkest depths of the Internet, thanks to a new application called SocialCam.
SocialCam is the newest “link baiting” application on Facebook that automatically shares your viewing activity to your friends. What makes SocialCam even more evil is that the titles are likened to that of a car accident, in that they are so shockingly provocative that one is almost tempted to click on them to find out if they could actually be true. (SPOILER ALERT) They never are, but the consolation prize is that the creepy and provocative titles are now broadcasted to the world for all your friends to view and say “WTF?”. And, trust me, learning that you accidentally have shared to all your closest friends that you were watching “Gangster fights Policeman,” or “Girl loses bikini in surfing accident” on SocialCam is never an easy thing to explain.
Luckily, there is an easy way to turn off automatically sharing the creepy videos you are checking out at 3:00 A.M., and save the last few shreds of dignity you have.
The easiest way to turn off SocialCam sharing
While completely turning off sharing is the usually the recommended way to go, many have reported that the settings revert back to public view sporadically, and thus, should not be trusted. So, here is the simple fix to stop from sharing your video views to all your friends:
1. From the Facebook homepage, click on “Apps”
2. In the “Apps” page, scroll down to SocialCam app and click on the little pencil icon next (to the immediate left) to it. From there, click “edit settings”
3. Look for the “posts on my behalf” section and change the settings of who can see posts this app makes for you to “only me”
4. Enjoy your creepy videos in privacy, ya’ weirdo…
